NOTES FROM THE BOARD...

  • The September, 2009 quarterly board meeting – actually held October 1 (sometimes this happens) – was largely concerned with measures to bring the Culinary Historians into wider contact with the world.

  • Although we are truly a Southern California organization, with members in San Diego, Riverside and Ventura counties, all our lectures are held at the Central Library in downtown Los Angeles. So several of our frequent speakers are offering to present their most popular talks at local libraries that request them. Contact Richard Foss here

  • The Culinary Historians are now associated with the Los Angeles Heritage Alliance, an organization of over 100 local historical societies. We have long enjoyed a fruitful relationship with The Glendale Historical Society, and this association this should lead to more.

  • We have established a Tech Committee to look into the use of Facebook, Evite and other new media.

  • The Culinary Historians’ charitable purpose is to buy historical cookbooks and manuscripts for the Library collections. We have thousands of dollars available for this, but at the moment we can’t donate any new books because the Library is seriously understaffed due to layoffs. In lieu of acquiring new books, our Acquisitions Committee has been studying book restoration services.
